We have recently been made aware of a garden fire just off Newgatestreet Road. A BBQ caused trees to catch fire which was dealt with by the Fire Brigade. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the adjacent field which, of course, is tinder dry at the moment. Please take extra precautions and keep you and your neighbours safe during this hot spell.

The annual Summer Fayre, organised by Goffs Oak Community Association (GOCA), proved to be a huge success. The total attendance was estimated to be a record number of 3,000 who enjoyed a fabulous family afternoon. The event’s total income has allowed GOCA to donate three £1500 cheques for their chosen charities: Stargardt’s Connected, The James Foundation and Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. Several hundred people attended the residents’ meeting on 16th July to discuss the proposed Croudace Homes development of 225 houses near Jones Road. A number of speakers reinforced the need to ‘act as one team’, stressing the importance of ‘unity and togetherness’ and emphasising the “responsibility of us all to protect this area’. Consultation closed in June for the Bellway development of 100 Homes on the land to the west of Burton Lane. CPRE (Campaign to protect Rural England) have commented on the application: The proposed development site is in the Green Belt. The application argues that the site is ‘grey belt’, an assertion that we entirely refute. The former INEX site (photo taken from tennis courts) is an eyesore in our village and the Council are considering next steps to progress the development. A new Local Plan is being developed in Cuffley & Northaw with proposals for 600+ new homes on our doorstep! The proposal for up to 21,000 homes in a New Town development is under Borough of Enfield’s jurisdiction. Broxbourne Council and Lewis Cocking MP have written opposing the scheme, highlighting adverse affects on Goffs Oak. We encourage residents to raise their concerns directly. Santa was at the Goffs Oak pub on three Saturday mornings in December. GOCA’s chairman joined Santa to present £800 to Great Ormond Street Hospital and a further £300 to a homeless charity providing meals.
