Neighbouring communities united against the erosion of our shared Green Belt
Updated: 7 days ago

Around 400 residents joined a peaceful demonstration on Sunday 4th October organised by the Goffs Oak Community Association (GOCA), walking from Goffs Oak to Cuffley in opposition to proposals for up to 2,500 new homes in the area.
Corina Gander, leader of Broxbourne Council and GOCA Chair John Gillett, addressed the gathering, with further speeches from councillors and campaigners.
The protest comes amid ongoing frustration about additional housing targets imposed by central government and the reclassification of Green Belt land as 'Grey Belt.' Residents signed petitions urging the government to reconsider the Grey Belt policy. Sir Oliver Dowden, MP for Hertsmere, gave his support. CPRE Herts has identified enough brownfield land in the county for 27,000 homes and has called for such sites to be prioritised over Green Belt development.
