Local charities benefit from Summer Fayre record attendance and generous sponsorship

The annual Summer Fayre, organised by Goffs Oak Community Association (GOCA), proved to be a huge success. The total attendance was estimated to be a record number of 3,000 who enjoyed a fabulous family afternoon. The event’s total income has allowed GOCA to donate three £1500 cheques for their chosen charities: Stargardt’s Connected, The James Foundation and Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.

The presentation of the three cheques took place on 17th August. GOCA Chairman John Gillett said “We were delighted to see so many people attending last month’s Summer Fayre. This has enabled us to provide each of our three charities with a generous donation to help with their vital fundraising. We are already planning that next summer’s event will be even bigger and better”.

Umesh Tailor from Stargardt’s Connected said “I am so pleased to receive this cheque. This will go towards helping the charity’s community to raise awareness of this progressive disease that affects the retina”.

Kelly Matthews, the founder and CEO of The James Foundation said “This money will go towards helping bereaved families through the heartbreak of the loss of their baby”.

Phil Millard, volunteer fundraiser and spokesperson for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance said “This donation will go towards supporting the 2800 missions we attend every year to save lives”.

Two other cheques were presented, firstly to Tom Watt (right) on behalf of the Hertfordshire World Scout Jamboree Unit, and secondly to the Medivets “Wilderness Foundation” charity (left) which helps to protect endangered rhino in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

Patsy Spears, Mayor of Broxbourne was in attendance to help with the presentations, as she is a strong supporter of these charities. Cllr Corina Gander, leader of Broxbourne Council and Cllr Pierce Connolly also attended the ceremony.
